The First RASC Committee Meeting Summary on June 7, 2008

The first Rebuild-A-School Campaign (RASC) Committee meeting was held on June 7, 2008 from noon to 3 pm at ‘Little Asia Restaurant’ in Oakland.  Nine of ten committee members attended the meeting, and made several important decisions that we like to share with the public.  Hong Tao and Frank Li were elected to coordinate the fund raise as the chair and vice chair, respectively.  Other members have been involved in various initiatives vital to the success of this campaign.

After an detailed update of the fund raising progress by the representatives from Pittsburgh Chinese School (PCS) and those from three other organizations, the committee decided to further investigate the following four organizations for fund transfer after discussing total of ten organizations.   The major criteria for their selection are the track record for delivery, financial transparency, naming right and responsiveness to donor inquiries.

1) China Children and Teenagers Foundation (http://jiuzai.cctf.org.cn) (based in China);

2) China Youth Development Foundation (http://jiuzai.cydf.org.cn) (based in China);

3) American Chinese Culture and Education Foundation (http://www.accef.net) (based in USA);

4) Shinshin Educational Foundation (http://www.shinshinfoundation.org/) (based in USA).

A final decision is expected to be reached at the next RASC committee meeting in two weeks by majority voting.  All money raised by June 30, 2008 will be transferred to a chosen organization for school building by a targeted date of July 15, 2008.  A brief report and the copy of fund transfer receipt will be posted on PCS website.

In addition, Gaoying Bolinger and Frank Li summarized various ongoing and future outreaching activities in local communities and the media to promote RASC.
