Rebuild a School for the Children Surviving
a Massive Earthquake
A
8.0-magnitude quake jolted Wenchuan area,
southwestern Sichuan Province,
China on May 12, 2008. The death toll has
reached 69,130, with 17,824 still missing as
of June 6. Over 45.5 million people
were affected by the quake. Many
school buildings suddenly collapsed during
the earthquake, trapping and burying
thousands of students. Much of the
poured in donations is targeted for the
immediate disaster relief.
Pittsburgh Chinese School (PCS)
initiated the Rebuild-A-School
Campaign (RASC) in Pittsburgh metropolitan
area to specifically help rebuild a stronger
and safer school in an earthquake affected
area. The RASC is currently
co-sponsored by Chinese Faculty Association
at University of Pittsburgh (CFAP),
Westinghouse Electric Company, Chinese
Association for Science & Technology
Pittsburgh Chapter (CAST-P), and
Greater Pittsburgh Area Sichuan and Chongqing
Association (GPSCA).
The goal for this campaign is to
raise enough funds for rebuilding an
earthquake resistant school. We have
raised over $78,000 as of June 9, 2008.
